Courtyard by Marriott

After being abandoned for 17 years, The Toronto National Bank Building was transformed into the Courtyard by Marriott (Fig 2), a contemporary hotel in the heart of Portland’s business district, designed by SERA architects. The Toronto National Building was built in 1982 and it was never inhabit until now. Three new floors were added to the exiting thirteen story building, the entire facade was removed and replaced for a new one, new systems were added to match the hotel needs, and the existing structure was upgraded according to the new loads. And adjacent three story building was demolished and replaced with a new 4 story structure accommodating parking access as well as public, and back of house functions.
The project was awarded with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, because its energy efficiency, low water consumption, low carbon emissions, high quality indoor environmental quality, and efficient use of resources.
